Lincoln
Park, Los Angeles, Ca. Congrats
to the undefeated (10-0) Northern League
and Defending 2007 Invitational Champion
Lincoln Tigers Girls Softball Team.
It was
another strong outing for #8 Sr. pitcher
Belen Benitez of Lincoln throwing another
seven shut out innings in leading her
team to a 3-0 victory. Belen gave up only
2 hits, struck out 12 with no walks.
Because of her performance this game,
Best Sport named her Player
Of The Game.
| To
remind most, at the Varsity
level, if your team gots strong
pitching, your team has a good
chance to make the playoffs and
advance to a championship game.
Whether Invitational or City. As for the Tigers, after
their pitching, I really haven't
seen much more. Descent defense,
but suspect offense. Last
Wednesday against the Mules, the
Tigers were clinging to a one run
lead (1-0) till the sixth inning.
The bottom of
the sixth is when they scored
their insurance run to win 2-0.

The
game against the Panthers, a 2
run throwing error by Panther
third baseman gave the Tigers a
2-0 lead. The play normally is a
routine double play that would
have ended the inning.
The
Tigers might have won that game
1-0 but ended up winning 3-0.
Talking to Coach Shapiro of
Lincoln after the game, he too
notice the lack of hitting and
somewhat of a slump his team is
in offensively.
To
me, this years team doesn't seem
as focused offensively as last
years 2007 Invitational League
Champs did. Hopefully the Tigers
are saving their offensive power
that I'm used to seeing for the
playoffs.

Other
recognized players from todays
game was #33 Amber Cabada from
Lincoln. She went 2-3 at the
plate with a double. Crossing the
plate for the Tigers 3 runs were
#19 Jenny Lie, #25 Andrea Acosta
and #44 Stacy Razo who also had 2
stolen bases.
For
the Panthers, #2 Pitcher Rebecca
Hernandez pitched a complete
game, giving up seven scattered
hits with 2 strike outs. #4
Lorraine Lopez and #7 Sonia
Mendoza had 1 hit apiece for the
Panthers only 2 hits for the
game.
Lincoln
host South Gate in the first
round of the Playoffs Tuesday,
May 6th, 2:30pm at Lincoln Park
