Franklin HS.
Have to admit, I'm really impressed with
the coaching Panther Coach Cortez has
done this season in leading her team to a
5-6 overall, 1-0 league record. After
covering her teams 9-4 victory Wednesday
26. 2008 over Belmont, I came to realize
her team is really short on debt in the
key positions.
Which makes this
early start to the season a
success due to the lack of dept.
Honestly, and only because I
coached softball this past summer
and it was suppose to be the
Panther team but only a handful
of ladies decided to played.
And because of
that, I didn't think success
would come so soon. Knowing too,
that all other teams that make up
the Northern League Softball
Division, excluding Belmont
joined the same summer league as
a whole team or another league.
Belmont not
playing because of the coaching
change they were going through.

The ladies I got to
coach from Franklin, Diana
Barajas, Darlen Hernandez, Meriam
Medina and Iris who plays JV but
I believe coach Cortez is moving
up this upcoming week.
All improved from
the day I started coaching them
and finished up being very
successful in helping my team
earn a playoff spot as a # 8 seed
playing the #1 seed Ball Crushers
(LHS).
We ended up
loosing because of a forfeit but
we soundly beat them outright
9-4. Starting eight players
caused the forfeit. But the
reason I didn't expect early
success for the Panthers this
season was because the # 1
position didn't play summer ball.

I did mange to land
JV pithcer Iris, but she only
pitched a few games for my team.
The other reason, you have to
play as a team in order to be
successful.
The other
Northern League teams did that.
From #1 position to #9 position..
Not because I didn't believe in
them. I know what the names I
mentioned are capable of doing,
the question is, do they? So far
they do. Job well done coach...
The Panthers host
Wilson Mules Monday, 3.31.2008,
2:45 at Franklin. Wilson who just
lost to ERHS 2-7 are 0-1 in
league and 5-5 overall.
